National Young Feminist Leadership Conference

Assist the staff of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics with general “tabling” duties: answering questions, giving out collateral and talking one-on-one to passerby. Sponsored by the Feminist Majority Foundation this conference will focus on the impact young women have when it comes to domestic and global issues. It is a unique opportunity for the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics to get our message of toxic chemicals in cosmetics out there!
Location: University of the District of Columbia (UDC), 4200 Connecticut Ave. NW, Washington, DC. UDC is located on the red Metro line.
Hours/time commitment: It will be quiet during the workshops but during the breaks, we will definitely need volunteers to help. Saturday, March 20: 8:45 a.m.-9:45 a.m., 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m., 1:30-2:45 p.m. Sunday, March 21: 9-9:45 a.m.; 11:15-11:30 a.m.; 12:45-1:45 p.m.
Number of total volunteers needed: 2 on Saturday; 2 on Sunday.
Meals or other goodies provided: As a volunteer, you will have access to all the workshops and plenary sessions. Goodie bag will be included! Please bring cash to buy lunch.

Day-of Event Support for Heroes Celebration

Connecting the Dots, our 2010 Heroes Celebration, will honor Internet sensation and environmental activist Annie Leonard of The Story of Stuff; Klean Kanteen co-owners Jeff Cresswell and Michelle Kalberer; and physician, scientist and public-health advocate Sarah Janssen of the Natural Resources Defense Council for their groundbreaking work. The evening will include an awards program, an organic buffet reception and eco-friendly marketplace.
Job title/description of duties: Set-up Marketplace Room (noon-4 p.m.); Set-up décor (noon-4 p.m.); Registration (5–7:45 p.m.); Monitor Auction (5-8 p.m.); Usher (7:30-9:30 p.m.); Break-down/Load-out (10:15 p.m.–end)
Location: Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, 701 Mission Street , San Francisco

Tabling at UCSF Bike to Work Day

Staff a Campaign for Safe Cosmetics table, hand out brochures, sign people up for the mailing list and answer questions for faculty, students and staff of the University of California at San Francisco. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics will be among 60 other vendors and non-profit organizations as part of UCSF’s Earth Fest 2009 in Celebration with Bike to Work Day! A Campaign for Safe Cosmetics staffer will prepare a box of materials for volunteer to pick up and drop off following the event. NOTE: Since you will be tabling without a Breast Cancer Fund staff person present, this opportunity requires previous tabling experience with the Breast Cancer Fund or the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. Must have car.
Location: Mulberry Union Gym, 500 Parnassus Ave., San Francisco, “J” Level – East, between 2 – 3rd Avenues, south of Golden Gate Park. Enter on Parnassus Avenue or Irving Street. Exit elevators on “J” Level – East (building map).
Hours/time commitment: 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Morgan Hill Sprint Triathlon

You’ll be supporting the efforts of local law enforcement officers, non-profit organizations and race organizers, keeping the course safe and providing an enjoyable experience for 900 triathletes at this popular event, which benefits the Breast Cancer Fund. Volunteers assist with packet stuffing and pick-up, check- in, course monitoring, parking and traffic control, aid stations, finish-line duties and product distribution at the finish line expo. Location: UVAS Reservoir, Morgan Hill, CA
Hours/time commitment: 4-5 hour shifts, Saturday Expo from 11 a.m.–6 p.m. and Race Day on Sunday from 5:30 a.m.-noon for the race and post-race music festival.
Number of total volunteers needed: 35+
Meals or other goodies provided: Volunteer event shirt, goodie bag filled with products and offers (if extras are available), and food and beverage at event. Groups larger than 15 will receive more benefits and possible charitable donations.
