Mary Brune

Mary Brune

Mary Brune was nursing her baby when she saw a news report about breast milk being contaminated with perchlorate, a component of rocket fuel. Turning her outrage into activism, she co-founded Making Our Milk Safe (MOMS).  Since that moment in 2005, MOMS has become a unique and powerful force in the environmental health movement: nursing mothers working to reduce children’s exposure to harmful chemicals linked to later-life diseases, including breast cancer. Under Mary’s leadership, MOMS has been an invaluable partner to the Breast Cancer Fund, and both MOMS and Mary were honored in 2009 with a Hero Award.
