Joan Blades

Joan Blades of MomsRising.org and Jeanne Rizzo of the Breast Cancer Fund

On Mother’s Day in 2006, Joan Blades co-launched MomsRising with the goal of building a massive grassroots online movement to push motherhood and family issues to the forefront of the country's agenda. As co-founder and board member of MoveOn.org, Joan knew as well as anyone the power of online organizing. MomsRising now counts more than 150,000 members, and growing. It was the voices of these member moms that helped strengthen the Breast Cancer Fund’s effort to pass the nation’s first federal ban on toxic phthalates in toys.

Joan and MomsRising were honored by the Breast Cancer Fund in 2009 with a Hero Award.
